2026 SPIE Prism Award Finalist

Gamma Scientific’s 191 AR Coating Measurement System Named 2026 SPIE Prism Award Finalist

San Diego, Jan. 16, 2026 – Gamma Scientific, a global leader in optical metrology, is proud to announce that its 191 AR Coating Reflectance Measurement System has been named a finalist for the prestigious 2026 SPIE Prism Awards in the Test and Measurement category. This innovative system delivers automated high-precision, non-contact first-surface spectral reflectance testing for anti-reflective (AR) coatings on both flat and curved glass substrates.

Precision Performance for Real-World Optics

First-surface reflectance—the light reflected from a lens’s outermost layer—is the primary driver of glare, ghosting, and contrast degradation. By isolating this specific reflection, the 191 System allows manufacturers to verify exactly how well their AR coatings perform in real-world environments.

This technology empowers manufacturers to evaluate color and reflectivity across a wide range of applications, including:

• Consumer Electronics: Tablets, cell phones, and displays.
• Vision & Photography: Eyeglasses and camera lenses.
• Industrial Glass: Complex curved and flat reflective surfaces.

Efficiency Through Automation

“First-surface reflectance is a critical metric in modern optical manufacturing,” said Kong Loh, CEO of Gamma Scientific. “Our system gives manufacturers the confidence that their coating performance translates directly to consumer benefits. This capability allows our partners to optimize product quality while significantly reducing testing costs and streamlining production.”

The 191 System eliminates the traditional bottlenecks of reflectance testing. Featuring Non-Contact measurements with automated focus and a built-in Auto Apex finder for curved surfaces, the system replaces manual subjective measurements with a fast, automated, non-destructive and repeatable process.
